Theodore Robinson

Theodore Robinson played a significant role in shaping American Impressionism. Born in Vermont in 1852, he spent his early years studying at various art schools across the United States before venturing to France. His time in Paris and exposure to European art had a profound impact on both his artistic perspective and techniques.

Robinson is especially remembered for his connection with Claude Monet, the renowned French Impressionist. In the late 1880s, Robinson traveled to Giverny, the village where Monet lived and worked. Their friendship and the artistic dialogue they shared greatly influenced Robinson’s embrace of the Impressionist style. He adeptly used light and color—defining features of Impressionism—in his portrayals of rural settings and small-town scenes.
