Priscilla Susan Bury

Priscilla Susan Bury, née Priscilla Susan Falkner, was an English botanist and illustrator celebrated for her botanical artwork. In the 19th century, she played an important role in botanical illustration, at a time when women artists seldom received recognition in scientific fields.

Bury was born in Rainhill, Liverpool, to Edward Dean and Bridgett (née Tarleton) Falkner. Growing up in a household that valued nature and education, she nurtured a strong passion for botany from an early age.

Among her most notable achievements is the publication "A Selection of Hexandrian Plants," released during the 1830s. This opulent work featured vivid illustrations of lilies and various other plants, highlighting her remarkable observational abilities and technical talent. The collection earned acclaim for its precision and vibrancy.
