Pieter Bruegel The Elder

Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1525–1569) is regarded as one of the most influential figures of the Northern Renaissance. His art played a crucial role in shifting the focus from the religious motifs that dominated medieval art to the earthly and everyday subjects that became hallmarks of Renaissance art in the Netherlands. Born in what is now Belgium, Bruegel left an indelible mark on Dutch and Flemish painting.

Bruegel is especially famous for his intricate and lively portrayals of landscapes and scenes from peasant life. His remarkable talent for conveying the energy and authenticity of rural existence introduced a new perspective to genre painting, influencing countless artists who came after him.
