Edvard Bergh

Johan Edward Bergh (29 March 1828 – 23 September 1880) was a prominent Swedish jurist as well as a landscape painter. Over the course of his life, Bergh made notable contributions to both the practice of law and the fine arts, combining two professions in a manner that was quite rare.

He is especially known for his involvement with the Düsseldorf School, an influential group responsible for advancing 19th-century landscape painting throughout Europe. The school became recognized for its realistic renderings of nature and often dramatic moods, qualities that Bergh’s paintings clearly reflect.
