Adriaen van Ostade

Adriaen van Ostade (baptized Adriaen Jansz Hendricx on 10 December 1610 and buried on 2 May 1685) was a notable Dutch Golden Age painter celebrated for his perceptive representations of everyday life. He focused primarily on genre painting, illustrating common men and women engaged in their regular routines.

Born in Haarlem—a city with a pivotal role in the Dutch art scene of the 17th century—van Ostade trained under Frans Hals. The dynamic compositions and expressive studies of character in his works reflect the influence of his teacher.
